Shortlisted: Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards

Hello It’s been far too long since I last blogged and like all the students right now who know they should be revising, I have that pang of guilt feeling at the bottom of my belly.

I had some very exciting news professionally last month, the news that an image I had entered into the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards, Apple A Day category,  had been shortlisted and entered into the Peoples Choice Awards. This week my image was published in Amateur Photographer magazine with the most lovely critique. I can’t tell you how big the smile on my face has been since seeing one of my images actually in print! So here it is, the image I called Mummy Will Get It;

Drina Cabra from AP writes;

“This beautiful image of a mother attempting to retrieve an apple that has fallen into a river benefits from its muted colour tones, soft light and overall composition. The whole scene has a painterly quality. It reminds us of walks through the park
or country during the warmer months”

What I love about this image is that it was a real fleeting moment during a photo shoot between a little girl and her mother. Totally unplanned and at the time when mum dropped the apple I remember seeing the beautiful light and the little girls expression and thinking I have to capture this memory, even if only for my own keepsake. I never actually showed the client this image until after I had found out it had been shortlisted almost exactly a year from when I took it.

I really thank those at the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards for shortlisting my image, and everyone who voted for it in the Peoples Choice category and demonstrating that storytelling and candid photography can evoke admiration and achievement.

This is a moment that I am going to remember forever.
